EMERGENCY REHABILITATION WORKS FOR FERNANDO REIG BRIDGE IN ALCOY

11/2017

Fernando Reig Bridge is a cable-stayed bridge located in Alcoy (Spain), which was opened to traffic in 1987. At that moment, it was considered the world longest-span cable-stayed bridge with a precast concrete deck. An Emergency Operation, including cable substitution of the bridge, has been carried out since May 2017 by the Direction of State Roads of the Valencian Community from the Ministry of Public Works and Transport. This Emergency Operation has been directed by Mr. Ismael Ferrer.

FHECOR’s role includes the work supervision since the beginning of the rehabilitation activities and the design of the strengthening intervention that includes the substitution of the damaged cables.

The contractor for the first emergency works, in 2016, was Imesapi, while FCC is the contractor for the current works. By October 2017, 16 out of the 38 cables of the bridge have been already substituted. The end of the works is scheduled for June 2018.
