La Laguna College of Fine Arts (GPY Arquitectos and FHECOR Ingenieros Consultores) has recently received the “German Design Award 2017” for best public architecture. This prize joins other already received such as the “LEAF Awards 2016” and the “American Architecture Prize (AAP) 2016”. At FHECOR we are thrilled by these news and we are eager to work again with the Tenerife based firm.

The building of La Laguna College of Fine Arts stands out for the huge interaction between structure and architecture (there is hardly any non-structural element for this purpose, as can be seen). Likewise, it is exceptional the building typology: a monolithic concrete structure without any expansion joint. Finally, the cantilever of the exhibition hall and the bridge at the entrance must be pointed out. Both of them are composed of vierendeel beams curved in plan and perfectly integrated with the architecture of the building.
